Specialty Pharmacy Continuum highlighted the efforts of three URAC-accredited specialty pharmacies in addressing health equity issues for the patients they serve.
The University of California, San Francisco; Vanderbilt Health and Baptist Health all have formalized teams and programs that work to ensure cost and other reasons are not barriers to treatment. These programs help patients enroll in community-based support programs, provide health literacy and language support and reach out directly to patients when co-pays for specialty medications go above certain dollar thresholds.
“Specialty pharmacies have always gone above and beyond to take care of their patients,” according to Heather Bonome, PharmD, Director of URAC’s Pharmacy Programs. “These efforts show that the organizations are taking a more systematic approach to health equity so that all patients can access the care they need when they need it the most.”
URAC’s specialty pharmacy and health equity accreditations can both be achieved in less than one year. Learn more about URAC’s programs here.
